Endometriosis

The GHOSTS project exists because artist Elska Leeloo sought a better way of coping with her long term health condition; Endometriosis. Diagnosed at 14 and pushed opioid painkillers ever since; as an adult she looked for healthier modes of pain control and found her answer in medicinal cannabis. The GHOST ashtray was then created as a playful companion but also a symbol of feminine rebellion against a healthcare system designed for the male experience.

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women. A chronic health condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other areas of the body, leading to severe pain and infertility. It takes on average 8 years to get a diagnosis and therefore many women struggle through their daily lives without anyone else knowing about it. Regular surgeries and hormonal suppression can help manage symptoms but as of right now, the condition remains under researched and incurable.

The Initiative

The GHOSTS Charity Fund serves two purposes; to invest in Endometriosis related research and to support individuals in life-changing endometriosis diagnosis and surgery.

Our objective is to have a meaningful, global impact, on accessibility to subsidised endometriosis treatment for those in need. Our initial partnership will be geared towards Endometriosis UK. When considering charities, our shortlist was also inclusive of EndoFound, World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF) and World Endometriosis Society (WES) . These charities are leaders in research grants and progressing the fight against Endometriosis, but do not currently have a direct line for case dependent support. Whilst the fund will start with Endometriosis UK, we will constantly be taking suggestions, and be on the look out for additional charities. Furthermore, whilst Endometriosis UK is a national service, they are able to provide some support globally. Where the scope of support is outside of their remit, they direct patients to the most appropriate charity.

The cost for an Endometriosis surgery can vary, from $5,500, all the way up to $33,000. 100% of the proceeds in the charity wallet will go towards supporting Endometriosis. We strive to fund as many surgeries as possible, in part or wholly, and as GHOSTS grows, we hope that the fund will be able to make a notable impact on the lives of those suffering. If you would like to make a contribution to the fund, you can do so by sending it to the wallet below.
